Kitchen Cabinet Color: Gray or Black

Thank you all so much for weighing in on the Home Sweet Home renovation kitchen layouts yesterday. The overall consensus is that Kitchen Layout 1 has the best flow and easier access to the appliances. A few readers brought up that maybe I should reconsider having an island in the kitchen. Leaving the island out is definitely something I may consider, depending on the space in the kitchen once the cabinets are installed. What are your thoughts on kitchen islands?

I have been torn on the base cabinet color in the kitchen. As you can see on my visionboard, I have both black and gray cabinets. I am so torn on this decision. I love the strong, dramatic look of black base cabinets with white walls and shelving, but gray base cabinets provides a much softer feel to the kitchen. In addition to black or gray, a small part of me wants to play it safe and go for white cabinets. As we all know, white cabinets are classic, timeless, and will never go out of style. I am not afraid of paint, or changing colors, but kitchens cabinets are a little bit more difficult to change. What are your thoughts?
