Hi y’all. While I was writing blog posts about the bungalow renovation, I was also posting almost every day on Instagram under #homesweethomereno. The blog got the big updates. Instagram got everything in between: the mastic, the drywall dust, the late nights, and every little thing we found hiding in this house.
I went back through my feed and pulled every one of those photos together here, in order, with the captions exactly as I wrote them at the time. Typos and all. It is the closest thing I have to a diary of those ten months.
A quick note on room names: the room I called my office back then is the front bedroom today, and the master bathroom is the bathroom that used to be the kitchen. You can see how all of it turned out in the 2018 Before + After and in The Downtown Bungalow Turns 100.
Summer 2014: closing day and the first surprises
The house was mine at the beginning of June. Before any real work started, the yard and the shed got some attention, the office drop ceiling came down, and the house got a new roof.

August 2014: demo, attic floors and a barn door
This was the month things really got moving. We found the pine flooring in the attic, started fighting the mastic, moved doors, and hung the very first pieces of drywall.
