Key points of the post

- To introduce you to simplify, streamline, style.
- To share a round-up of stylish Farmhouse solutions to help get you organized.
Are you ready to be inspired?
Well, if those organized and stylish Farmhouse spaces didn’t get you inspired to get started, I don’t know what will. Earlier this month, I took the time to organize my business, set goals, and get the business ready for 2019. Now, it’s time to start tackling the house. This one needs a full-on organization. I spent time last year getting it organized before I started renting it on Airbnb, but after moving in and out over the summer, it is time again.
How do I start organizing?
This week, I started listening to a new design podcast called Style Matters, from the author of Little Yellow Couch blog. One episode I stumbled upon was an interview with a team of stylish organizers in LA called Simply Spaced. The interview was all about the organization process. Now, in a dream world, I would pick up the phone, give them a call and have them come work magic on my home. However, in reality, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to their helpful tips on the podcast, will start organizing the house on my own. I will keep their tips in mind throughout the process and have outlined them for you below.

Step 1: Simplify
These two fabulous ladies, Monica Leed and Melanie Mesick recommend that you start in one room and stay in that room until it is organized. This is the opposite of what famous Marie Kondo of the Konmari method recommends. I have used Marie’s method and found it useful, but going room to room is more natural for me personally.
Both Monica and Melanie and Marie ask that you touch everything when you start simplifying and decluttering. Ask, what is trash? What needs to be donated? And what needs to be replaced? As you move through the process, question why you’re holding onto each item in your space. Put your hand on every single item. And as Marie Kondo says, ask the question, “does this item spark joy?” If not, let it go.
Once you simplify and remove stuff from your space, you will begin to see the space as more spacious, and you will start seeing the possibilities of how better to organize it.
Step 2: Streamline
Now that you have simplified your space streamline it. Ask yourself, what can you do to maximize your space? Think about how to organize the area. What type of storage do you need? Shelving? Bins? etc.? What can you use in the space to tidy it up and get it organized?
Step 3: Style
My number one intention with this post is to provide you with helpful tips and inspiration to get you started on your journey. However, that doesn’t mean that this is a totally utilitarian post. I am a designer, you know. With that being said and form and function, style is incredibly important to me; this is even true in organizing. Now is the fun part, stylish solutions for your space.
Start thinking about how you can bring stylish solutions into your space.
Stylish Solution Tips
Incorporate baskets. They can organize your magazines, accessories, toys, and more. The texture of a basket will work in any space. Baskets are one of my favorite storage solutions.
Bar carts. Bar carts can also be a chic storage solution. They can be used in almost any area of your home. Use it as a bedside table, in the kitchen, or even the bathroom. It can wrangle books, magazines, toiletries, towels, kitchen spices, just about anything and everything.
These are just a couple of solutions. Below I have pulled some of my favorite stylish storage and organizational options from the web. I focused on one of my favorite design styles, the modern farmhouse. Any or all of these items will work perfectly in your modern Farmhouse space but can most certainly be incorporated in your home regardless.
In conclusion, organizing the home is an important part of starting a new year with a clean slate. I know personally, I always feel better when my house is organized. As mentioned above, it is one way that you can gain a sense of control over your life. It also lays the groundwork for making everyday cleanup in your home much easier. Make the process fun by incorporating stylish storage solutions, and don’t forget to think outside of the box when it comes to your organization and storage!
