This Christmas, get inspired with these simple and stylish Christmas decorating ideas. Minimal decorations and DIY ideas.
Everyone loves decorating for Christmas and I am no exception! This time of year, my mind starts racing with visions of sugar plums dancing and Christmas decorating ideas swirling in my head. I have loved decorating for Christmas for as long as I can remember.
Looking back, I remember being 13 years old and getting so antsy to get the house decorated. The day after Thanksgiving I would ask my parents to take me to the Farmer’s market to pick out my Christmas tree. Slowly I walked the aisles of the Farmer’s market trying to find the perfect one for me. Finally, I would spot it! I would have it wrapped up, tied to the top of my parents’ car and off to decorate it I would go. As an adult, not much has changed. I am just as excited this year that Christmas is around the corner. Finally, it is time to decorate! This weekend, I will pull out all of my decorations. But, until then, I have rounded up some of my favorite Christmas decorating ideas from around the web to get you (and me) inspired.
Are you all set? Get your Christmas music on (I am totally listening to it while I write this) and let the Christmas decorating begin…
Christmas decorating ideas from Boxwood Avenue
Let’s start with Boxwood Avenue. Chloë is a woman after my heart. She lives on a cattle ranch in Likely, CA, population 99. Just recently, I stumbled upon her blog and immediately it became one of my favorites. It was love at first sight.
Chloe’s style is simple, classic, neutral and true to her farmhouse roots. Not only do I appreciate her overall approach to design, but when I saw her Christmas tour I literally could not stop scrolling. Just like the rest of her style, her Christmas decorations are understated but beautiful. I adore the simplicity of them and her pairing of both new and old. Last, but not least, I appreciate her use of lots of fresh greenery.

Do you love the idea of two small Charlie Brown trees in her living room as much as I do? I also noticed, no lights, just a few simple ornaments on the trees. You can view more of her charming Christmas tour here and here. Not only does she have a beautiful home all decked out for Christmas, but she also has several easy DIY projects for the holidays. Check out her cute DIY Advent Calendar.
Speaking of Christmas, DIY projects and Greenery…
The next blog I want to share, Fresh Exchange, has a fantastic tutorial on how to make your own garland. I am totally doing it this year! On the blog, Megan says it is really easy to make and inexpensive. I am going to give it a whirl. (**Update 2019, I did make my own garland this year, and just like Megan said, it was so easy. Find out how to make yourself in this Easy, DIY Christmas garland tutorial.**)

Minimal Christmas Decorating Ideas
As the years’ pass, I find more and more that I want to keep my Christmas decorations quiet and to a minimum. Natural and pure with lots of fresh greenery are the themes throughout this post. Nesting Place’s decorations are no different. If you’re going to go minimal this year, read her tips on how to keep your Christmas decorations to a minimum, but still, make a cozy impact. I am all for that. In addition to her tips, she has even put together a decorating guide for you, which you can find here.

Another Christmas minimalist, who I adore is Lisa at Farmhouse on Boone. Lisa is selling her family’s farmhouse house this season. For that reason, she wanted to keep the decorations to a minimum, but I think she did a perfect, yet understated job. She used lots of seeded Eucalyptus and greenery throughout the house and in the bedrooms. I felt it was the perfect touch. In my opinion, it is all you need.

Last, but not least. If you are looking for Christmas Decorating ideas for your table, visit Shades of Blue Interiors for inspiration. She did a stunning job on her Christmas table scape. The Olive branches on the backs of the chairs and the wreath on her door are just the right style and texture for her table scape. I want to sit down and have a meal at that table!
