Have you heard? This year, interior design is moving away from the all-white interior! I know, I know, it’s hard to believe. The white interior has had its heyday. I love a crisp white interior as much as the next person. But, the time has come to move over white, moody, dark colors are taking over.

I love all of the moody interiors I see popping up on social media.  They are fresh, bold, and have a very natural element to them. However, selecting the perfect paint color can be intimidating.  To help you choose just the right moody hue, I am sharing a few of my favorites paint colors from rich navy to deep olive to saturated charcoal.

Before we jump into the paint colors, I have a few tips for how to ensure that your dark room looks chic instead of bleak.

  1. Bring in light furniture. Pairing light furniture with dark walls makes the space feel larger and that it has more natural light.
  1. Paint the walls, trim and ceiling the same color. Continuing the same color on the walls, trim and ceiling create a cohesive, seamless look to the space. It allows your eye a place to rest. In addition to enhancing a cohesive look, painting all of your surfaces amplifies the richness of the space.
  1. Use muddled paint colors. Stick with paint colors that have a touch of gray or black in them. More muddled hues will be bold, but also neutral. When you start to paint a large surface the color becomes more saturated. Using deep navy, green or charcoal can appear as a neutral if you stick to a less intense version of the color.

Moody Blue Paint Colors

Now, are you ready? Let’s start with Blue, it is, after all, Patone color of the Year.

Blue is a staple for interior designers and for good reason. It is incredibly versatile and helps to create a feeling of peace, tranquility, and security within a space. In addition to that, it is viewed as a sign of stability and reliability. Who wouldn’t want to incorporate those feelings into their home?

Deep Green Paint Colors

Green is one of my favorite colors for interiors. Depending on the undertone, it can be a warm or cool color, making it very multidimensional.

Green provides a feeling of abundance, nature, and comfort to any room. One reason I love to use dark green within an interior is that it provides a cozy, calming effect on the space. How can you go wrong with green? It offers a sense of security and calmness, but also a bold statement.
