CURRENTLY LOVING

Updating a bathroom can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be, we’re doing this remodel on a shoestring budget!  This modern, yet rustic bathroom design plan includes wood laminate flooring, and reclaimed wood shelves for warmth.  A rich, dark vanity and mirror are paired with chrome finishes to add a sophisticated, and updated touch to this boring, dated bathroom.

I hope the first week of 2019 is off to a good start for you.  I cannot believe that we are finishing up the first week of 2019!  Most of the week, I have spent working on my goals and intentions for the new year (I will be sharing more on Monday).   I don’t do “resolutions.”  However, last year I did begin working with more intention and goal setting.  I plan to carry it into 2019.  Did you set resolutions this year?  As I said before, more about goals/resolutions on Monday.  In the meantime, I am excited to share a new client project that I recently started with you today!

CURRENT BATHROOM DETAILS

The current bathroom is small and outdated.  Built in the early 1900’s, the house has seen several renovations over the years.  However, the most recent bathroom renovation was poorly DIYed and is in need of a remodel.  My client has a small budget to work with and came to me to get the “biggest bang for his buck. ”  The client will be completing the renovation work himself.

Before the bathroom remodel. Grungy shower stall.

The bath and shower surround are in need up an upgrade.  A new one will be installed during the renovation.

Before the bathroom remodel.

A fresh coat of paint, and flooring are needed to get this bathroom back in shape.  I have proposed a soft, warm gray for the walls and a rich, warm wood laminate for the flooring.

The white vanity will be replaced with a rich, dark wood with open and closed storage.  I have proposed to remove the white, cumbersome medicine cabinet.  Replacing it with a dark, modern mirror over the vanity and a new set of chrome vanity lights.

MODERN, RUSTIC BATHROOM MAKEOVER PLAN

  1.  Haywood Centerset Faucet Chrome to add a stylish touch to the space.  This faucet also has a traditional feel to it.  It plays well with the modern lines of the vanity and mirror. ($58.99)
  2. Reclaimed wood floating shelves Open shelves over the toilet will add much-needed storage to this small bathroom. Linked is a tutorial for DIY faux floating shelves. Using reclaimed wood will add a warm touch to the space.
  3. Storage and Accessories  Storage jars are a perfect addition to open shelving.  They help to keep organized in the bathroom and can be used for everyday items.  Items such as decorative storage baskets, or extra towels also fit well on open shelves for easy access. ($36)
  4. Striped Shower curtain You can’t go wrong with classic gray and white stripes. This shower curtain works well with the neutral tones of the space, but has a modern appeal. The pattern adds interest to the room as a focal point. ($19.99)
  5. Margaret 2-Light Vanity Light A combination of classic and contemporary lines. This vanity light adds a transitional, sleek style to the bathroom design. ($98.99)
  6. Urban Loft Vanity Mirror I proposed a bathroom mirror simple with clean, simple lines.  It compliments the vanity, but does not steal the show.  The current mirror is big and bulky.  I chose to upgrade to a thinner mirror so that access to the sink is easier. ($95.99)
  7. Andover Mills Vanity  The space for the vanity is limited.  I had less than 24″ to work with for a vanity.  This one is the perfect fit, style and color for the space.  It has both closed and open storage, which is important and adds a stylish touch to the room. ($295.99)
  8. Chunky bath rug This chunky, dark gray cotton bath rug adds the perfect accent color to this modern, rustic bathroom.  It is comfortable when stepping out of the shower and works well with the warm woods and soft neutrals in the space. ($14.99)
  9. Paint colorValspar, Frappe is a warm, soft neutral gray.  It is a warm gray, which will work well with the current bath tub color and the new finishes that will be used within the space.  It will comfortably tie the old bath tub color and new finishes together. ($35)
  10. Oak Laminate flooring My client was specific in requesting easy click installation, laminate flooring.  The flooring will be used in the bathroom and into the adjacent kitchen area.  I chose Copper Sands Oak finish.  It has a warm, worn finish and looks and feels like real wood. ($100)
  11. New Bath tub surround ($100)

Total for this remodel: $855.94
