Master Bedroom Design
Before we move on to the plan, I would like to share with you where we started in the master bedroom. This room has come a long way, and I have been so comfortable in this space.
One thing I love about the current space is that it is light and airy. The morning light gently wakes me up each day. As a result, I find I usually wake up on the right side of the bed. Now, I do love dark, moody bedrooms, but I think for this makeover, I will keep it light and bright.
I shared more about the master bedroom renovation in my before + after house tour, if you haven’t read about it, ” Click the button below.

Master Bedroom Progress
Current Master Bedroom
The current master bedroom is functional, and neutral. However, it lacks interest. There is not a lot of texture, pops of color, or accessories in the space. As a result, it feels unfinished.
I would like to keep it neutral, but I want to update it by adding more texture, artwork, accessories and a little bit more depth.
The room needs a larger rug, window treatments, new bedding and rich wood tones to make it feel finished. What are your thoughts? What would you change in this bedroom?

Master Bedroom Design Plan
In the new master bedroom design, I started by warming up the white on the walls a little bit. I would like to keep the room white, but I changed the white to SW Alabaster white. Alabaster has a little bit of warmth to it.
Next, I updated the bed to a warm, gray upholstered bed. I added a soft flax linen duvet. To top it off, I accessorized with two dark, blue and white 26″ pillows, a burnt orange pillow and a smaller soft blue lumbar with fringe. Casually draped across the bottom of the bed is a soft cream and white Moroccan throw with tassels.
The bed takes up most of the space on the back wall, leaving little room for nightstands. I found two mis-matched wooden nightstands that will fit in the space and add warmth and texture. One is round with entwined legs and the second contrasts the original with straight lines. I chose two oil-rubbed bronze sconces for either side of the bed. The sconces contribute to the space by adding a slight rustic feel and leaving plenty of room on the nightstands for books and accessories.
I kept the rug soft and neutral. It adds a casual feel and is a nice size for the space. There is a soft texture to the rug to add interest.
On the window, I added a warm, wood bamboo blind. This allows soft light to come through the window and adds warmth to the space. It is framed by neutral, linen drapes hung close to the ceiling with a mid-century modern brass curtain rod.
The metals used throughout the design are mixed. I used a combination of warm, patina-ed brass, oil rubbed bronze and rustic copper candle sticks on the mantel. The mixed metals add interest to the space, and make it feel eclectic. The warmth of the metals used contributes a casual vibe.
Finally, to accessorize I added touches of greenery, an oversized painting with warm, rich tones, a neutral slipper chair in a an linen fabric and an adorable tweed dog bed for Gracie.
To sum it up. I wanted to keep the room light and neutral. However, I wanted to bring in more of a modern rustic feel by combining warm woods, mixed metals, soft textures and touches of warm colors contrasting with rich blues.
All in all, I am happy with the new scheme! What are your thoughts? I would love to hear them in the comments. Next, week I will share the new dining room plan!

My style.
I already have a lot of white and natural wood tones in my house, and I love it! My house feels very serene and peaceful and I would like to keep that feeling throughout. I feel that it fits with the style of the house as well.
As for me, my style is eclectic. I mix and match different styles throughout the home.
I like one of a kind finds, antiques, pieces with a backstory. I blend touches of rustic, traditional and even a little farmhouse. Lately, I have found that I am being drawn towards a few mid-century modern influences in the home as well. I am excited to start playing with a few new ideas for the house…stop by next Monday to check out the first Dream Home Design for my master bedroom.
Until then, catch up on my home renovation project. Take a tour of my house, including the Before + Afters.
