Interior Design trends for 2020 predict more color, more texture, and plenty of vintage accents! Below I have highlighted 7 of my favorites. Scroll down to find out what I am loving this year.
2020 is in full swing and today I am excited to share seven interior design trends that I believe will be taking the design world by storm! I feel like this year is a big trend year in design. Plan to see more bold colors, natural texture, and vintage accents. Read on to see which seven I believe will be popping up everywhere this year!
- Cane & Rattan Furniture
- Earth Tones
- Vintage Furniture + Accents
- Non-White kitchens
- Natural Wood Tones
- Antique Art
- Deep, Moody Colors
- House Plants
1 | Natural Wood Tones
Natural wood tones have moved their way into the limelight, bringing with them a feeling of comfort and natural elegance into any space. The beauty of wood is that it is incredibly versatile. It can be incorporated into any style and seamlessly pairs with everything from marble to metal.
2 | Antique Art
Antique art is on-trend in 2020, especially vintage art in “stuffy” wood or gilded frames. Aged or “old-looking” art can help add warmth, and patina to any room. It is being used anywhere and everywhere.
Prop a piece on the kitchen counter, add it as a focal piece to your living room mantel, or mix and match pieces together to create a eclectic gallery wall. The most popular subjects we’ll see this year are landscapes, dark moody still life and animals.
3 | Deep, Moody Colors
Rich, saturated colors will make their way into more and more homes this year. Lush olive greens, deep navy blues, and warm, moody charcoal grays are being used to warm up any interior. I especially love this trend on kitchen cabinetry, walls, and furniture.

4 | Cane & Rattan Furniture
The texture is big this year! Adding a signature piece of Cane or Rattan furniture to your space instantly adds warmth and texture. It is a look that is classic and timeless but completely on-trend for 2020.
5 | Earth Tones
The domination of cool tones is dying, and warm earth tones will be taking their place in 2020. Hearty colors like Clay, Terracotta, Ochre, and Olive green are making a strong comeback in the design world. You will see them everywhere; on walls, sofas, accessories, and even flooring. Today, I especially love the warmth of these terracotta pots.
6 | Vintage Furniture + Accents
This year, interior design lovers are getting comfortable mixing old and new in their homes. Mix in an antique piece with your new furniture to help tell your story. Layering in a vintage piece of furniture or two adds interest to a room. It makes the room feel lived in, curated over time.
7 | Non-White Kitchens
Goodbye, White kitchens! In 2020, we’re seeing a trend towards deep, saturated, moody cabinetry. These kitchens have depth and a natural feeling that is lacking in an all-white kitchen. I first spotted this trend a few years ago as color quietly moved onto the kitchen island. Now, color is not only on the kitchen island, but cabinets are being bathed in saturated colors as well.
The second alternative to the white kitchen we see trending this year is the reintroduction of wood tones in the kitchen. We have seen wood tones in the past, but now the bad wood tones from years past are being replaced with rich, natural-looking wood tones.
As discussed above, interiors in 2020 will have more color, more texture, and vintage accents! The seven trends listed are not the only interior design trends you’ll find sweeping interiors in 2020, however, they are the ones that resonate the most with me. In general, I lean towards classic design, instead of what is trending. But I love to throw in an element of what is trending to make an interior feel fresh.
I always incorporate natural elements and vintage pieces into my designs, trending or not. The trends I mentioned above feel classic to me, instinctive to my design practice. Each one feels like I am bringing nature into space, or helps tell a story.
At the end of the day, I feel that it is most important to design using the elements that you love. There are many “trends” this year that do not resonate with me and my practice, but I know that the seven mentioned above will find their way into my design world this year and for years to come.
